it's sticky

After doing several comic strips for METRO's Stick with Bus campaign, I have a lot of emotional faces for him. Here's a matrix of them.

Today, I did another ad for First Night Akron and a flyer for my children's school.

what's in the box?

Two years ago I did a Santa Shop illustration for my kid's school newsletter. Pictured first is the original rendering.

The idea is the cute animal students are in line buying the presents. The rabbit bought a teddy bear and is hugging it and winking at the cute boy bear behind her. The boy bear is distracted by her and doesn't notice his Jack-in-the-box popped open scaring the kids behind him.

I show my wife the finished drawing and she says - Uh... Is that his penis? A la Mickey Rourke's popcorn box in the movie Diner.

Here's a detail of the alleged inpropriety. Two years later my wife still sees it.

I did change it. I think it looks better anyway.

stick with bus

METRO RTA has been running a Stick with Bus campaign which I drew. It has been one of their most popular campaigns. Below are two comic strips, one of which never ran for fear of offending the University of Akron.

This is a tshirt advertising METRO's mobile website.

it's stopping traffic!

This is an ad displayed on the exterior of buses for the bus company. It is a movie theme campaign for METRO RTA's website.

first night is coming

Here's a postcard for FirstNight Akron. I know I can show it now that I saw one of my ads for it in a magazine. Today I worked on a Downtown Akron Partnership shell ad. A shell ad is when a whole or large part an ad space page is purchased and sections are sold to other advertisers. Does that make sense? I'll show it later.

get into the wayback machine

This is from waaaayback in 1998. Of course, it was a lot of fun to make. I did the marquee and facade of the Highland Theater from memory. It's pretty close, the tower is actually a little wider than the marquee.

out of the past

A job I did this past summer, creating vector art for a marketing firm for Alcoa Tire. Here is the image made in Adobe Illustrator and the wireframe of the same image.

2012 is coming

I finished up last changes for the First Night Akron postcard and did the first draft for the First Night Akron poster. Again, I'm not sure if the button has been unveiled, so I can't show any of this work yet.

Here is work I did for Downtown Akron Partnership a month or more ago, the Discover Downtown Akron Passport. First is the final product. Next is the first proof, they wanted the word PASSPORT smaller and their logo bigger.

more young inventors

I worked on a First Night Akron promo postcard today. I don't think the new First Night button has been unveiled so I can't show the postcard yet.
Here is some more art from the Young Inventors Hall of Fame comic.

young inventors hall of fame comic

I 'm happy with much of what I did for this year's comic. I did pencil sketches, scanned them, then finished in Illustrator. Here are some samples with a screen shot of the process.

catch-up

The past few months have been pretty much the usual work with Downtown Akron Partnership, First Night Akron, and PARTA. I've vectorized some logos for a Marketing/printing company. Today, I designed a logo for a new client and revised a upcoming Trip Planner for PARTA.

Here's some work I've done lately, First Night Akron ad and a promo mug for Downtown Akron Partnership.

trippin'

For the past few days I've been working on PARTA's trip planner webpage and some ads for the Downtown Akron Partnership and First Night Akron.

my modeling career

Occasionally, when there isn't a photo reference available I need to create one, and even be one. Here's a demonstration of the manly arts of cardboard flattening for the Downtown Akron Partnership's recycling program. And, pizza cutting for the Portion Paddle.

all the young inventors

Along with 2 Downtown Akron Partnership ads, I completed the comic for the 2010 Young Inventors Hall of Fame comic book. I drew this year's on the computer, my mouse finger really hurts now and it's spasming. I need some ibuprofen. I started out drawing, but thought it'd be quicker and easier to make corrections if I drew them in Adobe Illustrator. Below are examples and one of the hand-drawn sketches.

a few things and a past job

Today, I did a sell-sheet for "The Vyndicator", a remote measuring tool for machine shops. I added a Facebook link on PARTA's website and did some work on this year's Young Inventors comicbook.

The images shown are for METRO's logo for their hybrid buses, the first few were the contenders, and the bottom is the chosen.

promo for downtown akron partnership

This morning I've been laying out a promotional magnetic picture frame, the kind you put on the refrigerator, for the Downtown Akron Partnership. This past summer I also designed their digital billboards, I think 12 in all. They're similar, each just promoting a different downtown business. They can be seen on routes 77 and 8.

METRO RTA wanted some modified circus posters for the Circus of Lights Festival this weekend. Below are the original and metrofied images.

t-shirts for kindergarten field trips

For the past few days I've been updating some software and searching for lost fonts and other problems that pop up when getting a new computer.

Today, I did some designs for t-shirts for my daughter's class field trips. Shown are a couple illustrations for them.
